What a way with words you have about FOOD! of course as well as chickens, dogs and horses. But I can smell this dang food and it’s killing a Louisiana gal in Massachusetts where it is 5 degrees.

As a bi-coastal person who divides time between South Louisiana and Denver, I am very familiar with both the cuisine and ambiance of Lucille’s in Fort Collins. The owner and I have several mutual fiends from his hometown of Kaplan, La. I love the breakfasts. Your article really makes me want to try the trout dish you beautifully described.

I miss Lucile’s ! It was one of my favs in FTC. My mom was a quilter with an entire bedroom dedicated to fabric. We copied their vintage napkins & made them out of vintage scrap materials. I still have a drawer full if you need some! Thanks for the great article 😋

April, that is so cool about copying their vintage napkins for a quilt. I would love a couple of the old vintage scraps, I only have one! They were so special. Thanks for reading and commenting!

Hi Julia,

This is the third time I'm writing this, because whenever I leave the page, my copy leaves too.

I am so delighted with all you've written -- the book, Julia McSherry's WILD in the Kitchen and Garden, and this wonderful Substack review of Lucille's Creole Cafe. Although I've never eaten at Lucille's, all I can say is you have made me feel as if I have, and the food was heavenly! So the next time I'm in town (yours) let's go. In fact, why don't we write a cook book.....? In fact, I have another idea. At the top of my bucket list is something I always thought I would never want to do. I want to take a European cruise on a Viking ship. I have heard from several travelers who have done this and

they were all delighted with their experiences. They (Viking) have top ratings and it sounds like they do things the right way. No children under 18, no smoking, no casino, no loud noise. Just a serene atmosphere where you can forget your troubles and your hard work.......to be continued a la email.

I didn’t know there was a Lucille’s in Ft. Collins! Love the one in Boulder. We’ll have to go some time.

Great article!
